It’s Begun!

Not sure why it is listing the post date as 9-12-20, but it is actually about 9:00 p.m. on 9-11-20. I’m here typing at the computer while a Duo video call with Kendall is open next to me. He is doing his first real round of his first chemo regimen. It’s good to be making progress! Kendall will do a dose every night for a week of the chemo cocktail he’s getting tonight. On Monday he will also receive a different chemo drug (which is the one they are the most worried about how he will tolerate). The possible side effects they are monitoring for now are heart damage, liver damage, blood clots, anemia, and then your typical things like nausea.

The results of Kendall’s lumbar puncture showed that the cancer is not yet in his spinal fluid. That is such good news! We’ll know a lot more in the next few days how effective the chemotherapy is, and we aren’t sure yet if they will also add radiation at this time. We continue to hope that he won’t need a bone marrow transplant, but time will tell.

I’ll include a picture of Kendall getting his chemo. He’s been in pretty good spirits. We’re so thankful for technology that allows us to stay connected. It’s a little hard to tell from this picture, but I think these scrubs look a bit like a smoking jacket from a low-budget television show from the 70’s. Not too many fashion choices in the hospital apparently!
