We did get the results of Kendall’s biopsy, and the mass in his lungs was not malignant. Great news! It does look like some sort of infection (but thankfully not COVID), and the doctors will be giving him an anti-fungal medicine this week to try to treat it. An MRI revealed that the activity on his spine (and the back pain he’s been having) was most likely due to his SIX new spine fractures, but doctors did not see evidence of new cancer there. We also learned that the mass that was in his hip appears to be gone. So all in all, the news wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. (And even good on some fronts!)
Kendall was supposed to be admitted to the hospital last Wednesday to start his next course of chemo, which of course changed when they got the results of his PET scan and emergency admitted him last Monday. That meant that he was home when the kids and I went to St. George for four days last week. We were grateful that Kendall’s sister was able to clear her schedule to come stay with him and allow us to still go. St. George was exactly the break and recharging (and warmth!) that we needed.
We were originally told that Kendall would be admitted to the hospital yesterday, but there have been some complications with a few of his medicines, and he has also been having some sort of allergic reaction to something that we’re trying to figure out, so the hospitalization got pushed to Wednesday (tomorrow). Kendall did start his new oral chemo medicine last week (possibly the cause of the allergic reaction?), and he did do a 4 1/2 hour infusion of another of his chemotherapy drugs this morning, so he’s pretty tired out. It’s been nice to have him home these past few days, though.
Another thing that has been delayed several times was meeting with his transplant team. We got to meet one of the members of the team today during the infusion. We were given a large binder full of information that I’m sure we will become very familiar with, and they confirmed that things are moving forward with the testing. We’re realizing that this is really not a fast process but we’re grateful for the progress that is being made.
