Deep breath, as we’re about to dive in this week to the start of a new school year. After the disrupted and crazy year we had last year, my kids are understandably nervous about this upcoming school year. Kendall used to give each of the kids a priesthood blessing before the first day of school. I’m grateful that my dad was able to come over tonight to continue the tradition.
Despite maintaining that tradition, however, this is far from a typical year for us. It’s almost ridiculous now to think back on what an organization freak I used to be preparing for the beginning of a new school year. Seriously, it was a bit extreme, but I loved doing it. New schedules planned out, school supplies and new wardrobes for each child purchased, sorted and organized dresser drawers and closets, lunch-packing bins carefully labeled and stocked with easy-to-grab and healthy food items in the fridge and pantry, freezer stocked with freezer meals….I was ready to go. In stark comparison, our life now could be better described as “[mostly] functioning chaos.” The planning and organization parts of my brain have not resumed working yet, so we’re kind of winging it. A lot. But ready or not, the new school year is upon us.
So in the meantime, I think I’ll be channeling images of living my best hammock life. This picture was taken up in Eden, where I got away with some college friends for a few days about two weeks ago. It was so beautiful and peaceful there. I have a feeling that life will be anything but as we adjust to the kids being back in school and my working full-time. Wish me luck!
