I’ve started this update several times but haven’t known exactly what I wanted to say. We’ve been adjusting to our new “normal” of having Kendall home. It’s been a learning curve for sure. There have needed to be a few more trips to Salt Lake than we’d expected because of some lab results and other schedule changes (so thankful that Kendall’s sister has been able to help us with driving). Kendall will be going up on Thursday and Friday of this week as well (don’t know yet about Saturday or Sunday). Kendall has had more nausea and fatigue, as well as some other symptoms we’re watching, but he is working on building up his stamina with stairs and short walks (went four houses today!). We should hopefully know more in about two weeks, when imaging will show if the chemo has been effective at all on reducing the cancer, and we’ll learn more about what next steps might be.
In the meantime, the kids are pulled out of in-person school and we are isolating as much as possible from other people. Many generous friends, neighbors, and family members have helped us with things like grocery runs, reached out to our kids, or checked on us. I’ve had too many things on my plate to get on top of writing thank you cards yet, but please know how incredibly grateful we feel. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. We have felt so loved and supported throughout this experience.
(Picture explanation: Kendall definitely missed the family the most while he was in the hospital, but getting to eat chicken flavored Maruchen Ramen was right up there. Making some was one of the first things he did after getting home. Lucky for him he has low sodium levels right now, so high salt items are actually OK for him to eat.)
