Kendall’s liver numbers are much worse today (over 2,000), which means that this is severe VOD. He has also gained 31 pounds in the last few days from fluid retention. He did have a paracentesis today to drain some of the fluid, so hopefully he’ll be more comfortable and in less pain. It should also put less pressure on his lungs. Kendall was not moved to the ICU last night, or today, but they are still considering it.
With a bone marrow transplant the criteria before they will let a patient come home is their ANC number needs to be at least 0.3 for three days in a row. What’s ironic is Kendall’s number is well above that, and if he didn’t have all of the extra things going on today is when they would have allowed him to come home.
I did learn today that the current hospital policy (with COVID) is that they WILL allow children in to the hospital to say good-bye if it comes to that. I had believed it wouldn’t be allowed under any circumstances, so I can now set aside worrying about that.
